Our purpose is to introduce people to exciting new brands, and help to make the switch to clean beauty and sustainable fashion fun and easy. We are dedicated to finding brands that use non-toxic, cruelty-free ingredients, sustainable production methods and reduced packaging and waste, without compromising on quality and performance.

We try and test every single brand before choosing it, so that we only offer you the best. We carefully assess each brand’s working practices using certification schemes and other independent rating projects such as COSMOS, the Soil Association, Fair Trade, OEKO-TEX, the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and B Corp.

However, certifications can be a lengthy and expensive process often not available to smaller companies, so we also work directly with all brands to understand their values and working practices. Where there is not enough information, or we feel brands are too vague in describing their ethics, we won’t list them. All our partner brands share our values around transparency, responsibility and sustainability.

Whilst it’s almost impossible for brands to tick all the boxes, we have highlighted our key criteria below, which also appear as filter options on our site.

CHARITABLE – where a brand donates a certain percentage of profit or sales to a charitable cause.

CRUELTY FREE – nowhere in the process are animals harmed to test products or ingredients. All brands at SCOON are cruelty-free, that’s a must.

FAIRTRADE – a certification which guarantees that the people who produce goods are adequately paid and not exploited in any way. All brands at SCOON are fairtrade.

HANDMADE – where an item is made either completely or mostly by hand. In some instances, machinery may be used to finish a product, but the majority of the work has been done by hand.

NATURAL – where a product is only produced using naturally occurring raw materials and/or ingredients

MINIMAL WASTE – where there is zero or very minimal waste created by the production process.

ORGANIC – produced by organic farming, without the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides or other artificial chemicals.

RECYCLABLE - products that can be converted into new materials and used again to minimise waste. Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, cardboard, plastic, and textiles.

RECYCLED – a product that is made from materials that have been used before and turned into a new product. E.g. a glass jar made from recycled glass or a jumper made from recycled plastic.

SHOP LOCAL - the majority of materials or ingredients will be sourced in the same location as they are designed and manufactured. When a brand comes from oversees, we will source distribution partners as close to you as possible.

SMALL BATCH– only producing small batches of products in order to reduce waste.

SUSTAINABLE - production processes that have little or no effect on the environment and take long-term impact into consideration for all product and packaging design.

VEGAN – Products that don’t come from animal sources and aren’t tested on animals.

WILD CRAFTED - the practice of harvesting plants from their natural, or 'wild' habitat, for use of various products including beauty products.

All beauty brands we list are cruelty-free, non-toxic and free from harmful chemicals like parabens, sulphates, PEGs and mineral oils. For more info on the ingredients we exclude and why, read here.
