Curated By

Introducing Curated By, a new series in which experts, tastemakers and friends of SCOON curate their selection.

For this Curated By edit, we asked the lovely Jennifer Rijs to share her SCOON favourites. We follow her on insta @jenniferrijs for her style, her open-mindedness and her beautiful family of 4.

Now, as SCOON’s collaborator, Jennifer not only shares her edit of the SCOON collection, she also talks about why she made the switch to shopping more consciously and what she hopes for the 'new normal'.

Where does your ‘sustainable drive’ come from?

From the feeling I had to make and be the change for the future for my children. Starting a capsule wardrobe was my first step in choosing to go less is more. Reading more about this topic opened my eyes on the dirty side of (fast) fashion. It broke my heart and felt so determined on changing my choices. I want to contribute to making fair brands become the new standard. That is what the world needs, to make a brighter future for everyone.

What are your favourite places to shop for clothing and what do you take into consideration before you decide to buy?

I am kind of old fashion and love to shop in stores, to feel and experience fabrics and fits. Although some of my favourite brands are only available online. When I choose to buy I ask myself the questions, does this item elevate my wardrobe? Am I going to enjoy this piece for at least more than thirty wears? If so, it often is a buy that will last forever.

SCOON came to life because we felt it was hard to find one place for modern ’Brands that Care’ that don’t compromise on style and performance. Sustainability is becoming more mainstream with new sustainable brands launching every day, what do you think of this movement?

I really feel like cheering because fair fashion really needs to be easily accessible to make it work for lasting sustainable changes. At first, fair fashion wasn’t always that fashionable. I love the fact that more and more brands are really putting out great styles while being sustainable in the first place.  Although as a consumer we need to stay critical. Some brands call themselves sustainable without the right foundations.

With Corona putting everything on hold, people are saying that this is the time to make big changes and create a new normal, what do you hope will change in the fashion industry?

I hope people become more focused on supporting small and loving brands and stores online and offline. That they become dedicated to brands that put their hearts into fair pay and safe production for garment workers. That consumers become more mindful with their purchases and become more willing to invest in timeless items instead of hoarding fast fashion. Fair fashion really needs to be the new normal!

Jenn's curated collection and why she loves it:

These are my forever favourite sneakers! Comfortable, beautiful and will match every look. You can wear them casual with jeans or dress it up with a dress or skirt. They are never out of style. Perfect for my wardrobe

Everyone needs a long sleeve tee! I think you need to invest in a good quality tee to make the most out of it! You can style this with almost everything!

Cosy on the couch or for a chilly summer night. A lovely cardigan like this one can be used every season. A real must-have!

As a mom its a must to have a cross-body bag so your hands are free for your kids. It's so much easier to carry your stuff and still be able to play around with your kids. How cool that this bag is made entirely from recycled materials! Perfect for on the go and you can also style this bag for a night out.
