WORON is a Scandinavian Brand based in Copenhagen, founded by sisters Arina and Anya Woron. Not only do they create sustainable underwear that is clean, but it's ultra-soft comfortable too. On top of this, each garment is sewn in a small female-led family factory in Hungary, which provides benefits for working mothers.
We sat down with co-founder Anya Woron to find out more about the story behind the brand, what makes them unique and their way of living more consciously.
What made you start Woron?
We founded the company because of the strong desire to share our take on the perfect lingerie line. We realised that the first thing that we took off when we got home in the afternoon was always the bra; lowering the straps, unhooking at the back and then followed by an “ahhhh...” of relief. Our aim is to create that lingerie, that will be the first thing you want to put on and the last thing you take off! It is comfort without sacrificing feminine shaping, fashion and style - and style without sacrificing sustainability.
What is the story behind Woron and what would you like to achieve?
Our purpose is to make women’s authentic self flourish. With a deep conscience for sustainable production and the environment, by being vegan and cruelty-free, we develop underwear and everyday essentials for women in interaction with women. We focus on women’s natural shape and embrace their identity, by creating simple, comfortable styles that support a healthy lifestyle.
What do you care about most when creating and producing your product?
Clean and with style both in look and in our conscience is what we strive for. We’ve heard the sentence ‘Less is More’ said a thousand times, but it really is true. Our inspiration comes from our 3 keywords: Sustainable Fashion Essentials. This is the essence that we kept coming back to when we were still in the planning stages and brainstorming our ideas for our brand. We have a very minimalistic Scandinavian approach and what we find fascinating, is that something so simple and clean can be so attractive. We embrace Slow Fashion as the core of our designing process. This is also the message that we want to get across, that less definitely can be more. Our goal is to find that perfect balance between producing a good quality product which is fashionable and staying true to our moral compass. There is never any need to compromise, especially when we keep the process clean, transparent and simple. By limiting our collection to its essence, we are able to put the right amount of focus and thought into each part of the production and all the way to the customer’s wardrobe. The whole cycle from production, transport, packaging and all the way to the fabric touching your skin should cause as little stress as possible.
What does sustainability mean to you personally and how do you incorporate it into your life?
"I believe we all want to sustain that, which is good, which we love and when its time has run out, we want to give it a good passing. And it’s like this, whether it be people, animals or small things such as fashion lingerie. So we wish to transfer the ‘sustain’ in sustainability to our brand and product because we love it!" - Anya Woron
Sustainability is a lifestyle for us, right from the way we eat, live our daily lives to the way we run our business.
What is your advice to consumers to take the first step?
The first step is to become aware and to be aware of the various steps that you take throughout the day. With knowledge comes the ability to act in a more clean, a kinder and a more sustainable manner; so this is by far the most important step to make.
What is your best beauty tip? And what are your favourite products or brands?
Anya is actually making our face and body creme. At first, it started because we were not able to find alternatives that whereas clean and efficient as we would like them to be, but now she really enjoys getting lost in recipes and mixtures. But for other skincare products, we are quite fond of the brand 'Intelligent Nutrients. And for make-up, we use 'Miild Makeup'. Our friends founded the company and are the only make up brand today, with the full range of certifications.
