NATURAL DEODORANTS THAT ACTUALLY WORK NATURAL DEODORANTS THAT ACTUALLY WORK

If you’re used to a conventional anti-perspirant, making the move to a natural deodorant can appear daunting (particularly if you’re afraid of ending up sweaty) but the payoff is totally worth it.

Conventional anti-perspirants use aluminium-based salts to basically plug the sweat ducts and prevent you from perspiring. They are often coupled with a deodorant, which contains fragrance to stop you from stinking.

Odour is actually caused by the bacteria on your skin combined with the proteins and fat of your sweat. Natural deodorants work by fighting off bacteria growth on your skin so that odour is minimised. What they don’t do is prevent you from sweating altogether by clogging up your pores with aluminium salts – as anti-perspirants do. Natural deodorants are formulated without aluminium, so you might still sweat a little bit, but their bacteria-fighting properties won’t leave you with a bad smell. As aluminium is a common cause of skin irritation, aluminium-free natural deodorants are great for those with sensitive skin.

With a lot of debate regarding potential health issues related to conventional anti-perspirants (even though studies have been inconclusive), it’s no wonder that more and more of us are making the switch to natural deodorant.

Clean, non-toxic deodorants come in many shapes and textures (botanical and clay powders are usually used to absorb wetness, while essential oils and plant ingredients target the smell) which means rubbing deodorant in as a cream or patting your armpits with powder.

Making the move to a clean deodorant can be a bit tricky, as you’ll need to allow some time for the initial ‘detox phase’– you may sweat a little more than usual. But hang in there, once you’ve made the switch to natural deodorant you’ll never look back.
