Our planet is an amazing place, but it needs our help to flourish. That’s why each year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day to protect the planet from things like pollution and deforestation. Together we can make sure our world is a happy, healthy place to live.
Do you want to know what you can do to help? We are giving you 5 tips on how to contribute to Earth Day.
1. Reduce, reuse, recycle
Reducing, reusing and recycling waste is vital cleaning up the environment and keeping it clean. It helps save landfill space by keeping useful materials out.
2. Give your car a break
Leave your car at home and walk, ride a bike, carpool or take public transportation to run errands. Next to saving money and get more exercise, you'll reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which causes air pollution and climate change.
3. Shop local
By buying locally, you can help to cut carbon emissions and air pollution - whether that's by reduced food miles or indeed transportation of any other item. It's better for the planet and helps support the local economy, too.
4. Give back to nature
Take part in activities like picking up litter, planting trees and donating clothes.
5. Don't stop after this day
Even though Earth Day might be only one day a year, to really make a significant difference these tips are important to keep in mind each and every day.
